Computing in the Clouds

Cloud Computing: What it Means for Libraries, Library Staff, Training and Skills

Robert Bley, Ex Libris.STS-96 Launch

Presentation at the JIBS User Group Workshop and AGM Back to the Future and Into the Cloud, 24 February 2012, School of Oriental and African Studies, London.

Gives a good definition of what cloud computing is – ‘the delivery of computing as a service rather than a product’ (Slide 4) and the benefits for library staff – ‘the exciting thing is that it frees-up people to do more creative things, of deeper value to users’ (Slide 20). Always good to hear of library staff getting the opportunity to be creative!
